Revitalized Medvedev Claims Maiden Trophy in 882 Days

Nineteen of Medvedev's 21 victories have been earned on hard surfaces

A resurgent Medvedev won his maiden championship for over two years with success over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament title decider.

The athlete, a former top-ranked player, has experienced a difficult season, achieving just one win at the Grand Slams and experiencing a meltdown at the New York tournament.

His inconsistency on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his service game in specific - resulted in him dropping out of the world's top 10 and ultimately separating with former trainer his previous coach.

Presently working with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, he has gradually progressed in the past month - culminating in a tightly fought three-set victory over challenger Moutet.

This represents his initial trophy following the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hard court from March of 2023.

Victory also signifies Medvedev has won 21 championships at 21 various events.

"It's the first time I have attended a competition with my children at once, so to secure a trophy is particularly special," commented ranked player Daniil Medvedev.

"This victory is in dedication of my second daughter Victoria, because the first title I achieved when my older daughter Alisa was born was for her."

Medvedev, the past champion, had failed in his past six title deciders, featuring in the German tournament earlier this year.

His retrieving play style and regular outbursts on the tennis court had led some to question if his skill to perform at the elite level was over.

But the athlete has implemented adjustments in the past month, striving to advance forward and play aggressively, reinforced by an improved serving game.

Medvedev came back from a deficit in the first set against the difficult Moutet, taking four of the concluding five points to gain the advantage.

Both players swapped break points in the second set before the challenger, striving for his first ATP Tour championship, took control to push for a decider.

Moutet rescued 4 initial opportunities in a close final set before the champion secured a break to that score to secure the win.

Fittingly, the winner clinched victory with a point at the front of the court, with the Frenchman unable to handle a volley after a lengthy match.
