Area Law Enforcement
Around fifty cars have been marked with what appears to be human blood in the German city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Vehicles, building surfaces and postal boxes were marked, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they stated in a statement.
Law enforcement say they were alerted late on Wednesday evening, when a man observed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish substance.
The liquid had been applied in the shape of a swastika, they stated.
Law enforcement then discovered multiple other marked automobiles and residential walls in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws prohibiting the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials state early analysis indicate the fluid was likely blood from a person.
"Currently there is no indication as to where it came from; investigators are currently not informed of any physical harm in association with the event," they added.
Municipal representatives announced they were trying "to solve the case" and have requested to the community for tips.
An important representative said the vandalism left him speechless and needed to be solved promptly.
"This event hits the center of Hanau and reopens the pain of the right-wing violent incident in 2020," he posted on online, referring to the killing of nine people by a shooter aiming at individuals of foreign heritage in February 2020.
